Colloidal Silver the Last 100 years

Colloidal silver was the center of studies as early as 1914. Dr. Henry Crooks’ studies revealed colloidal silver to be non-toxic and harmless and to humans. Dr. Crooks determined colloidal silver to be highly germicidal killing many bacteria.

Colloidal silver was commonly used by physicians until 1938 as a disinfectant and as an antibiotic. When chemist Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin the pharmaceutical companies launched a winning rocket of sales for the new prescription drug. Colloidal silver was removed from the prescription drug list and was allowed to be sold “over the counter” as a supplement.

As studies were completed on penicillin it was found that this drug did not effect virus but was successful in controlling bacteria growth. Very few doctors continued to use colloidal silver. After several decades, scientists noticed that the old strains of bacteria were building up immunity to penicillin. Doctors became concerned after 40 years of continued increase bacteria resistance to penicillin and started to research colloidal silver again.

Colloidal Silver in the 1950s found renewed use in Russia space water purification, and Czechoslovakia found colloidal silver’s ability to neutralize bacteria and virus as a form of disinfectant.

Tetracycline and Penicillin began to lose effectiveness on Staphylococcus as early as the late 1950’s and early 1960’s.

1970 was the beginning of the renewed interest in colloidal silver. Early in the 1970’s, Dr. Harry Margraf and Carl Moyer M.D. in an effort to find a antiseptic strong enough but yet safe enough to use on large areas of the body, discovered that colloidal silver was the best know treatment for burns. They also found that colloidal silver was non-toxic and stated that colloidal silver was the best all encompassing germ fighter available.

Jim Powell, in 1978, orchestrated a research for Science Digest that concluded that colloidal silver was not only effective to kill bacteria but that colloidal silver also had equal effectiveness in killing virus. Jim Powell reported that colloidal silver was unlike patented antibiotics, resistance strains of bacteria and virus DID NOT develop when patients used colloidal silver. Mr. Powell found that colloidal silver was effective in killing hundreds of infections caused by bacteria and virus where patent antibiotics could only fight 10-12 infections.

November 1, 1988, Larry C. Ford, M.D, reported that in his antimicrobial test of colloidal silver was for disinfectants and the results showed colloidal silver to be antibacterial for Staphylococcus Aurcus, Streptococcus Pyogenes, Gardnerella Vaginalis, Salmonella Typhi,, Neisseria Gonorrhea, and other enteric pathogens, and fungicidal for Candida Albicans, M. Furfur and Candida Globata. Dr. Ford was with UCLA School of Medicine, Department of Ohstetrics and Gynecology. In 1992, Doctor Robert Beck, research physicist, completed exhaustive research on colloidal silver at Upstate Medical Center of New York. He discovered that colloidal silver eliminated dead tissues and stimulated growth of numerous tissues in wounds.

Dr. James F. Balch wrote in the periodical Prescription for Nutritional Healing, that colloidal silver can protect you safely from wide array of infections.: skin & nail fungal infections sunburn, rashes, burns, wounds, mouth sores, bad breath, toothaches, eye drops and cuts.

As recent as April 24th, 2000, the University of North Texas, Department of Biological Sciences, reported that tests of colloidal silver had positive results for eradicating the fungal pathogen Candida albicans and the bacterial pathogens Salmonella typhimurium, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Enterococcus faecalis.
