Stroke: 4 Clues of Stroke Symptom Test

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

Stroke can now be diagnosed by any bystander according to leading doctors that battle the aftermath of stroke. When stroke is identified immediately, minutes saved can actually be the difference in the victim returning to a normal life or permanently disability.

Most neurologists agree that if they can get to a stroke victim in the first three hours after the stroke, they can totally reverse the stroke effects . . . ENTIRELY! The key to preventing permanent stroke effects is recognizing that a stroke has occurred by the person with the patient and then getting the stroke victim seen by a neurologist within three hours of the stroke.

Here is your Stroke Symptom Test

Doctors now acknowledge that any bystander can recognize a stroke by asking the suspect four simple questions:

    1. S Stick out your tongue.
    2. S Ask the person to SMILE.
    3. T Ask the individual to TALK, to Say A SIMPLE SENTENCE. (Plainly) (i.e. . . “The sky is blue today.” “The sun is shining overhead”.
    4. R Ask them to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

The acronym to remember is SSTR

If the individual’s tongue is ‘crooked’, or goes to the side or the other, this is an indication that this person has had a stroke.
If they can’t smile normally, can’t say a simple sentence without difficulty, or cannot raise both arms, CALL 911; explain that the patient cannot perform these simple tasks and that you believe they have had a stroke, IMMEDIATELY!
